LO-CAT® II Rises to Technological Challenges at Gas Plant
The first LO-CAT® II unit to treat sour gas at elevated pressure was installed at MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Company's production unit in Szeged, approximately 100 miles southeast of Budapest. Together, US Filter and MOL worked to address unique design and operational challenges, including a two-phase oil/gas pipeline feeding into the unit and elevated CO2 concentrations in the sour gas. Adjusting operating procedures and modifying the unit's hydrocarbon collection system allowed the team to correct an excessive amount of condensate entering the unit. The plant now operates with an average gas flow of approximately 38,000 SCFM and an average H2S removal efficiency of 90%.
The Szeged LO-CAT® II system treats a blend of recycled process gas and associated gas collected from oilfields around the plant. The blend is compressed to 250 psig and sent to the LO-CAT® II unit, where H2S concentrations are reduced from 50 to 5 ppmv.
